Natural Visions Photography
7717 E. Broken Wagon Way
Stewart C. Schrauger, of Natural Visions Photography, picked up his first 35mm camera while serving in the USAF from 1968 through 1972. Assigned to the National Security Agency as a top-secret Turkish translator/crypto-analyst, photography was just a hobby at that time. After the military, he did part-time newspaper work, and started photographing weddings. In 1974, he went back to the USAF (Reserves), for a few years, as a base photographer with the 913th Tactical Airlift Group, at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station/Joint Reserve Base, Pa. From the mid-70’s through the late-90’s, he applied his passion for the camera to doing stage /concert photos for promoters, radio stations, musical artists and record labels. Also during that time period he helped cover major auto racing , i.e. NASCAR, Indy/Cart, and Formula One, for the Associated Press. From the early -80’s through 2005 he did features and sports photography for various newspapers in Bucks County, PA. He and his wife, Debby, moved to Prescott Valley in December, 2005. He still does a lot of commercial work (weddings, etc.) and photojournalism, but for the last 15 years or so, wildlife, nature, and landscape photography has also become a serious part of his life and repertoire.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT
The biggest challenge and reward I get from photographing wildlife is during the actual process of capturing (on the camera’s canvas),) an animal, in its environment, and getting close enough to watch and enjoy it, but without disturbing it. With my nature and landscape subjects, recording that inherent beauty on film or digital capture is also something that can be treasured, now and in the future. The common thread that drives my passion for photographing the land and its wildlife is the scientific reality that someday, in the not too distant future, these things of natural beauty may not be here to behold and enjoy. If my images of the natural world can help to slow down the fast-paced destruction of global habitat, then my work has greater meaning. |
